The Enemy Within

The enemy within is a nonfiction historical account of the development of witch hunts both in Europe and in the American colonies. The author is John Demos who is a professor of history at Yale University and is the author of several articles and books on American history.

The early European development of witch craft started in local cult activities beginning in the middle ages when there was a great deal of superstition. Many of these thoughts had been passed down from pre-Christian times and typically focused on crop fertility, weather, love, sex reproduction, health, property and many other human relationships. With time three highly charged images would gain strength those being the Devil, the heretic and the magician in which each or all three would become the image of the witch.

Witchcraft gained momentum due to environmental factors such as civil wars, religious wars, famine, plagues, political turmoil, harsh climate change which resulted in dislocation and dispossession of large elements of the peasant population.

Typically the witch would be a middle aged or elderly widow who had lost the protection of her male counterpart. It appears that menopause and the loss of reproduction played an important role in the definition of the witch. Many of them were impoverished and could become targets of suspicion and resentment.

There seems to be three elements in which witchcraft became evident. The fist was distress caused by epidemic disease, floods, earthquakes, droughts, or clusters of house fires or shipwrecks. The second was remarkable events such as the appearance of comets, eclipses and meteorites. The third was caused by human affairs such wars, community division over religion or controversy of ownership of property.

With time witchcraft served to explain painful and baffling communal experiences. Disappointment and failure could be explained by witchcraft such as crop and livestock failures. butter that would not churn and could even include loss of love and broken friendships.

In Puritan American, the typical village lived with a fear of disorder and thus they found within their faith strength, hope and the promise of a new life. They believed that intense and unrelenting discipline would be able to control disorder. Thus, when disorder such as crop failure occurred in the village, they had to have an explanation for the cause. And the scapegoat was the witch. It is interesting to note that when the offending witch had been removed such as through a conviction, the village would feel a surge of unity as the process of removal of the witch seemed to be restorative and amazingly the crop failures would reverse.

In Salem, probably the most famous witch hunt, it appears that the whole scene was one of fraud and imposture, begun by young girls who at first wanted to be pitied and indulged and then continued by adult persons who were afraid of being persecuted themselves. It has been further stated that witchcraft frenzy was a matter of superstitious fanaticism promoted by the ravings and goadings of the clergy. The result in addition to shedding the blood of numerous innocent victims created lasting political and intellectual damage to the village. The Salem courts were led by the same men that led the community in politics and the military. These men failed to stem attacks on visible enemies and to shift the responsibility to the demons of the invisible world.

Why do we use this expression? Why is the college degree called a “bachelor’s” degree? Originally a “bachelor” was a soldier not old or rich enough to lead in battle under his own banner. Thus bachelor meant a person of inferior rank. It was applied to the college degree to differentiate it from the higher degree of “doctor”.

Work Institutions, Leadership, and Culture

Work, leadership, institutions and culture are interrelated and integral to positive psychology. All people tend to identify themselves with work. People even introduce other people, such as: “She is Mary, a psychologist.”. If people do not work and do not make money, their self-esteem decreases. Work adds or does not add purpose to life. Work, whether it is paid or not, is a big part of life. Even if people were financially free, people would still do something with their time, after getting all the fun and travel out of their system. Therefore, happiness at work transfers and contributes to people’s life happiness. Work naturally shapes people’s network or circle of influence, as humans like to group up with people who share commonalities with their work, industry, and professional experiences.

Furthermore, studies show that satisfied workers have higher work titles than unsatisfied workers. Employers like high energy workers as they are effective, accomplish tasks in less time and do not use sick days. Most coaches agree with Myers’ findings, as they see these results in the organizational coaching they conduct. Workers, who live chaos free, stay organized, accomplish tasks in less time than workers who are not disciplined, and are chaotic. Everyone can think of a time when she or he has become overwhelmed, as a result of too much work, and cannot function and think intelligently. Individuals can also think of times when they were not stimulated at work;, their work was repetitive and meaningless. Studies have shown that the workers who thrive, are the ones who are continuously challenged in meaningful ways, so work can become fun and play.

Karl Marx pointed out the importance of self-expressing yourself at work, for work satisfaction. Also, there has to be value in what people do. All jobs are necessary and each person needs others to be able to work and live. A vital skill is being able to transform perceived threats into healthy challenges. Another way for work and life happiness is to live intentionally and take charge, versus reacting to what the Universe may bring us. It is important to set intentions. Wellness overall depends on mindful challenges.

In addition, using the principles of Positive Psychology, people can design positive intervention to achieve goals, including work and organizational goals. The success of workers depends on motivation and maximizing own potentials. People accept changes conditionally, depending if it makes sense to them. Gradual changes are more successful than drastic changes (Aspinwall and Staudinger 2003). Often people who implement changes have little understanding of psychology, and, if they did, not only changes would happen more smoothly, but organizations overall would be more profitable. It is the duty of psychologists to educate organizations about the psychological principles governing companies that are made by people!

Politics, economics and society as a whole, need psychology as well. Aspinwall and Staudinger encourage the introduction of science markets, where psychologists bridge other -non psychologist- professionals and psychology. This way, solutions could be formulated together, thanks to psychologists offering their research findings. Once the solutions are found, then social engineers would carry them out. Positive Psychology has the power to optimize processes and services.

Also, it is crucial that people are utilized for their strengths for their own benefit and the benefit of society overall. When people utilize their own strengths, they become intrinsically happy and optimistic. Positive Psychology involves positive emotions, positive people’s traits and positive institutions, such as work, leadership, and culture.

Besides, more and more scholarly articles stress the importance of happiness at work and slowly but surely more organizations are realizing it and make it their goal and mission with employees. To create positive institutions, it is important not to keep secrets, following a mission and have effective conflict resolutions skills. According to Seligman, there are five traits to positive institutions: continue growing, CEO modeled, being bigger than its sums of the parts, empowering to make decisions, and being clear with the mission or purpose. Positive leaders create positive companies and institutions. Positive leaders understand the power of finding meaning in work, the power of recognizing worker’s successes all throughout and giving their power to others.

Again, positively and positive energy is contagious, because, from a quantum physics perspective, everything is energy. Therefore, people tend to gravitate towards other positive people, positive leaders, positive teams, institutions and positive cultures. The proposed model to link positive psychology and business, to make businesses successful and sustainable, is to center them around the VIA Human Strengths. Institutions or organizations are seen as micro-society and micro-communities that expand outward. Coming from strength or love, versus lack or fear, always produces far better results and outcomes. Change is about strength. All of these principles could be summarized by saying that it’s best to see, focus on and bring out the best in people. Again, these principles are true across different cultures worldwide.

Finally, Positive Psychology may be confused with self-help. It is not, as it is solely based on solid research finding, that back up any thought or hypothesis. According to Positive Psychology research, the most effective and authentic leadership shares the same values and happiness. The most rewarding work lies into sharing the same organizational culture. Positive leaders’ expectations of selves are the same, or congruent with their expectations for the other workers. Similarly, leaders who understand positive psychology are well positioned to create optimism, positive change and positive organizational culture.

Questions to Ask Before An Auto Insurance Purchase

Information about auto insurance companies and coverage options are available from multiple sources for examples the state’s department of insurance, magazines, and independent reviewers’ websites. Insurers operate within the scope of state’s regulations, so everyone will get more or less the same suggestions. There are laws that govern how insurance companies conduct their businesses. There is a clear boundary between legal and illegal practices, but customers still need to do their due diligence to not only avoid frauds but also purchase the right insurance policy that contains the right coverage from the right company.

Insurers have their own methods to determine price and coverage. Apart from company’s policy, customers’ personal data and previous DMV records, behaviors on the road are also essential. Two people who have the same car model and make can get different quotes because they have different records and preferences as well. Here are some questions policyholders must ask themselves before they decide to purchase coverage from any provider.

1. How Much Do They Drive?

More mileage per policy period means more expensive premium. A person who drives a car every day of the week to commute spends more time on the road, hence higher risk of accidents. Distance between home and workplace also helps determine auto insurance premium. Therefore, someone who drives short distance should pay less for auto insurance coverage. Some companies provide discounts for low mileage, too.

2. Do They Use Their Cars for Commercial Purposes?

There are two types of auto insurance policy: personal and commercial. Personal auto insurance is for those who drive for personal purposes for examples to their workplaces or leisure travels. All types of coverage in the policy protect the safety of the drivers and cars. Commercial auto insurance provides more complete protections such as for cargo or passengers (who are not from the same household). Financial protection for cargo means more expensive premium, but this is necessary from business point of view.

3. Do They Have Any Emotional Attachment with Their Cars?

People who love their cars very much need the best protections available from providers. In addition to minimum coverage requirement by the state, optional coverage is necessary to protect cars from wide range of potential dangers. Collision, Comprehensive, and Road Assistance are not mandatory, but they must purchase such coverage for better protections. Additional coverage increases premium rate.

4. Does Anybody Else Drive the Car?

Other drivers (for examples spouse, children, or anybody who lives in the same household) must put their names in the policy. Additional drivers mean more expensive premium, but it can be cheaper when the other driver is a teenager. Insurance companies tend to think of young drivers as high-risk, so it is best to list their names as secondary drivers to minimize cost.

5. What Type of Cars Do They Drive?

Cars with minimum safety features cost more to insure. Sports cars or luxurious models are expensive to repair, and this is why auto insurance providers charge higher premium.

6. Do They Own or Lease the Cars?

Full ownership of the car grants the right to choose any combination of insurance coverage available from provider. When the car is still under lease or finance agreement, the financial service that leases the vehicle often requires driver to include specific type of coverage as part of the deal. In this case, total cost for insurance is almost always more expensive than the amount full owners have to pay.

7. Where Do They Park?

Policyholders’ address is also an important thing to consider. People who park their cars in urban areas where crime rate is high tend to pay higher for auto insurance. There is higher risk of theft and vandalism in the area, so additional protection is necessary. Car owners who live in suburbs often pay less.

8. Do They Have Any Traffic Violation History?

Traffic law violations in the past affect the current premium rate. Records of DUI, involvement in major accidents, improper turn, and failure to produce driver license or insurance card affect premium. When an insurance company thinks that a driver is too risky to insure, the driver needs non-standard auto insurance. The term “non-standard” refers to coverage for high-risk drivers.

The Importance Of Self Love

When the expressions “loving yourself” or “self-love” are heard, there may be confusion about what is meant. This is because when we hear the word “love”, we think in terms of what we are familiar with, dependent love. If we try to love ourselves, we may take an approach similar to that used in dependent love, using ourselves as the object of our love. We may try to escape into ourselves, as we escaped into others. We may become self-absorbed and self-indulgent, putting our own needs first. The motive is still to escape. We reject unhappiness and, in so doing, reject ourselves.

Self-love has nothing to do with using yourself as the object of your love. Self-love is defined as inner peace, a connection with God. It is not the act of “loving” an object because it may please you tremendously, whether that object is someone or something else or yourself. Self-love is a condition of awareness, a way of perceiving, an attitude, which results in an integrated perception of the world, and in turn, a perception of your connection with God.

All human beings are created with the natural need to give and receive love. We are created in love which forms the foundation of our divine spiritual selves, and of our physically manifested life. Even the many limitations that we encounter in our early lives do not remove love from our spiritual center, because it is the essence of who we are.

The antidote to this cycle of difficulty is the development of self love. Self love is not a technique, but rather the restoration of our innate spiritual center—GOD—which is love. From this place, love from our Divine Creator flows freely into the body, mind, emotional bodies, and spirit. Love is expressed outwardly towards others and oneself as a natural flow.

Demonstrating self-love begins with self-acceptance. They are essentially the same. You begin loving yourself when you stop rejecting yourself, especially on the feeling level. When you practice self-acceptance of your feelings as they are now, you will experience real changes in consciousness. You no longer try to juggle people or possessions in the external world in order to find fulfillment. You find fulfillment from within, simply by accepting, without acting out, your feelings as they are right now.

Do not underestimate the importance of self-acceptance. It can end the emotional pain that you feel or lead to the spiritual experience you want. Starting with the mundane, you will reach the highest of inner realization. In welcoming all your feelings, you become whole; life becomes holistic. You experience oneness. You no longer compulsively search for oneness in the external world, whether with another person or with an achievement. You accept and love yourself.

We can begin by finding a calm inner place within our spirit to meditate and reflect. Sometimes it may seem difficult to find a little piece of inner calm – especially when things are hard. You probably know how much better you feel when you take time to find that calm place inside – but how many of us actually take the time to find that calm place when we are stressed out, or even on a regular basis? If we take the time to find that calm inner place, this is the path to the inner peace and self acceptance that we all so desperately crave. This means finding peace with our inner and outer selves.

Most of us as women are assaulted with negative messages of our outer selves and our bodies on a regular basis by magazines and newspapers, advertisements, “well meaning” family members, peers, and even friends. We’re shown computer-manipulated images of the “perfect” body-a body that is not natural for the vast majority of us, and can only be obtained through self-abuse and starvation.

We sometimes forget that women come in lots of different shapes and sizes, and this diversity is just not reflected in the media. It’s hard to feel good about ourselves when we don’t see ourselves reflected back. How we feel about our bodies affects how we feel about ourselves. So it’s important that we embrace our bodies, and find ways to love our bodies-and ourselves.

There is no doubt in my mind that the quality of love is the #1 quality that God would like to get worked into our souls and personalities. Even nonbelievers, atheists and agnostics can see the power of love and how it has the ability to change people and change lives when it is properly handled and walked out.

Hollywood has made tons of movies just on the power of love – especially the special love that can occur between a man and woman in a romantic relationship. Even hard, tough grown men can be brought to tears when watching a real well made movie made about the power of love.

The quality of love is truly universal – as it literally transcends peoples, nations and religions. Love is truly the universal language of this world and people from all different walks of life recognize it for what it truly is and understand the power that is in it. Surrounding yourself with love brings positive energy into your life because loving yourself is loving God.

Current Trends in Wedding Photography

Wedding photography is an evolving field that requires artistic talent, vision, and highly technical expertise.

In the past wedding photography was almost always limited to stiff posses without much regard for the underlying story, emotion, romance, and behind the scene events of the wedding day.

Although there is still a big segment of the wedding industry that practices traditional photography with its preplanned poses, and recreation of the wedding peak events such as the kiss, the ring exchange, etc., the modern wedding couple demands a more contemporary approach to their wedding day.

Wedding photojournalism has been in vogue for the past decade. The central idea behind it has been the capture of the wedding events without any interference or direction from the wedding photographer. The photographer is there to capture the true essence of the wedding day. As a result of this realistic approach the photographs are a true representation of the wedding day. Hard core wedding journalistic will be totally opposed to posing any wedding related event. If it doesn’t not happen during the wedding it won’t be recorded. This includes family group photos.

Several photographers offer a hybrid approach to wedding photography, usually a combination of traditional and journalistic wedding photography. In this approach the photographer focuses on documenting the wedding day but the coverage also includes a session with the couple for formal posed or semi-posed photographs and also family group photos.

The latest trend in wedding photography is toward a more fashionable approach. Inspired on high-end fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, GQ, American Photo, etc., and wedding magazines the photographer seeks to make the couple’s fantasies real.

In the fashion wedding photography approach the goal is to make the wedding couple look their best. Their romantic interplay is glamorized to its maximum expression. The everyday couple becomes like wedding celebrities. Attention to detail is required to achieve the perfect look. This approach requires a great deal of artistic talent behind the camera and also great computer image editing skill to produce a unique photo. Half the photo is made on the camera with the second half achieved though digital image editing and manipulation.

Which style is best, is for you to decide. In our experience a big segment of the wedding couples want to capture the reality, details and romance of the wedding day but at the same time they have fantasies about their wedding and the way they should look.

When making a decision for a wedding photographer look closely to the photographer’s portfolio and see how it agrees with your philosophy on how your wedding day should be photographed. Regardless of your philosophy please make sure that you select a master of the craft, you and the next generation deserve masterpiece memories of your wedding day.

Preserving Our Democracy on Valentine’s Day

On this forthcoming Valentine’s Day, my significant other and I chose to keep away from customary endowments, for example, favor sweet for her or a container of decent alcohol for me for making blessings that help safeguard our vote based system.

The two of us have been seriously stressed by the cases Donald Trump made promptly after the race, and keeping on dating, about how a large number of illicit votes as far as anyone knows cost him the prevalent vote. He is firmly considering propelling an examination concerning claimed voter misrepresentation, notwithstanding the way that his own particular legal counselors prior expressed there was no mass voter extortion in the 2016 presidential decision. Numerous unmistakable Republicans, for example, Paul Ryan, pushed back against Trump on this issue, requesting that him either exhibit proof or quit discussing this issue. Subsequently, unmistakable daily papers and reality checkers have included Trump’s cases around voter misrepresentation to his rundown of falsehoods. Still, regardless of such pushback, as per surveying, a dominant part of his supporters trust Trump won the prominent vote.

On Valentine’s Day, we went to our most loved night out place, somewhat Italian eatery not a long way from our home. After a scrumptious cheesecake dessert, it was the ideal opportunity for our blessing trade. She displayed her blessing initial, a gift to the Against Malaria Foundation. With her $50 blessing in my name, she purchased 20 extensive bed-estimate nets that would ensure families in the creating scene against fatal intestinal sickness conveying mosquitoes. Thusly, I gave $50 to GiveDirectly, in her name. This philanthropy exchanges cash specifically to beneficiaries in a portion of the poorest towns in Africa, who have the pride of utilizing the cash as they wish. It resembles giving cash straightforwardly to the destitute, with the exception of dollars go a ton promote in East Africa than in the United States.

This year, we chose to do a similar thing, with the exception of giving that cash to associations that battle against lies in governmental issues, accordingly safeguarding our majority rules system from tyranny. While we both serve on the Board of a charitable association, Intentional Insights, which has a venture committed to battling post-truth legislative issues, we chose ahead of time not to provide for that association as we as of now give bounty to it, and such a blessing would be excessively clear and stay away from the unexpected component. I’ve truly appreciated exploring different associations tending to the myth of enormous voter misrepresentation or upholding against lies in legislative issues, and have effectively made my blessing. I’m anxious to go on our trip for Valentine’s Day and present my significant other with it, and discover where she gave her blessing.

Airport DVD Rentals

Airline passengers on both domestic and international flights are familiar with DVD movies shown to combat boredom during their travel. Some domestic flights might not have this option because of shorter flights, but international flights are making a great effort to include new DVD movies on the agenda to make a passenger’s long journey as comfortable as possible.

Stores who rent DVDs to airports try to do it at a considerably lower price than for individual customers, because airports order in lots. The number of flights leaving from big international airports can be as many as 10 or more per day, and all of these flights show movies during the course of travel.

Airport authorities usually keep a stack of DVDs. Some are purchased while others are rented on a long-term basis through online DVD rental stores.

Usually stores provide unlimited DVDs rentals to airports for a nominal monthly fee. The newest movies are available, and regular airport customers can book in advance.

Online rental stores make it a point to deliver DVDs to any airport across the country as a bonus. Airports can rent movies and return them once the flight returns.

Rental agencies allow airports to rent out more than one movie at a time with a single membership. This provides more flexibility to airport authorities who are selecting movies during any given time period. Airport memberships can be by the month, year or lifetime. The best option for an airport would seem to be lifetime membership, since airports renting movies for flights will probably continue doing so for a long time.

Top 5 MLM Companies – MLM’s Industry Leaders

In this article we take a quick look at the network marketing industry heavyweight contenders. We review the features, advantages and disadvantages of the top 5 MLM companies based on their popularity. The measure used to determine the most popular is simply Internet search traffic volume. Although popularity may not necessarily be the best reason for any person to join, we thought it would be useful to know a little about these companies that are attracting the most attention in the online world.

The actual popularity of various network marketing companies is calculated by Mark D Worthan’s Best-MLM-Opportunities.com which uses Google search data. His rankings are based on Google Trends, which is a service from Google Labs that allows you to compare the number of searches for various keywords across time. The service can be used to determine the relative number of searches for various MLM companies. Here are the results from current data, along with a short overview of each company:

1. Amway – Amway began when its founders became distributors of Nutrilite vitamins in 1959. Amway is famous for “legitimizing” the network marketing industry in 1979, based on FTC’s ruling that the company did not qualify as a pyramid scheme. This was based on the finding that the Amway compensation system was based on product sales vs. recruiting payments. Amway reported sales of $8.4 billion in 2009. Amway North America was closed in the early 2000’s and most North American distributors became memebers of sister company Quixtar, but still continue to order Amway products. At that time, the average monthly earnings for “active” Independent Business Owners was disclosed to be $115. The main advantage of Amway is is broad name recognition in the industry. Its main disadvantage, as reported by many distributors, is its compensation plan which makes adequate earnings difficult for most IBOs.

2. Herbalife – Herbalife was founded in 1980 and achieved net sales if $2.3 billion in 2009. Over the years Herbalife has faced occasional legal challenges over the safety of its products, none of which has yet been upheld. The company reached settlement with the California Attorney General in 1985 for $850 million when charged with making inflated product claims. The company’s product formulations were changed to eliminate Ma Huang in 2002 when several states enacted laws to ban the use of ephedrine alkaloids. In 2007 a scientific study at the University Hospital of Bern Switzerland and Israeli hospitals found an association between consumption of Herbalife products and hepatitis. These items and other media and legal settlements seem to be the company’s main disadvantages.

3. Mary Kay – Mary Kay started in 1963 as a skin care and cosmetics products company, based initially on a tanner’s formulations. Worldwide revenues were $2.5 billion in 2009. Brand recognition is the main advantage of this company, which obviously appeals more to women than men. A significantly high annual turnover is experienced for both US (68.6%) and Canadian (85%) consultants. Earnings statistics reported for Canada were that of 29,675 consultants, only 1878 grossed more than $100, 276 of the 553 Sales Directors earned more than $17,471 and 15 of the 23 National Directors earned more than $100K, which suggests significant earnings are experienced by only a few top consultants.

4. Pampered Chef – Pampered Chef was founded in 1980, using in-home demonstrations to market cookwares via the party plan business model. Berkshire Hathaway Corporation acquired Pampered Chef in 2002. Earnings figures are unavailable.

5. Monavie – Monavie distributes a juice product made from blended fruit juice with main components of freeze-dried acai powder and puree. Monavie, founded in 2005, was recently ranked eighteenth on Inc. Magazine’s 500/5000 ranking of the fastest growing private companies in the US. Company claims of effectiveness of its key polyphenol antioxidants have been refuted by the FDA, Linus Pauling Institute, and European Food Safety Authority which state that such compounds have little or no value following digestion. A Newsweek article reported only 10% of distributors earned more than $100 per week and the 2008 rentention rate for new recruits was only 30%. Monavie reamains a very viable opportunity for signifant earnings despite these issues and highly popular #9 ranked on MLMInsider.com’s annual report. This may be due to its more up-to-date and potentially lucrative compensation plan and outstanding management, although a recent mlmwatchdog.com video reports a significantloss of interest due to compensation plan changes in the last year.

We don’t necessarily recommend or advise against joining any of these top 5 companies, but merely wanted to look at a few facts about them. The main point to be made here is how few people do any checking on company background, the founders and/or compensation plan before joining. If evaluating home business opportunities, it is advisable to get familiar with the industry, establish some selection criteria and make an informed, unemotional choice. One thing to note is that strong emotions often come into play in the “buying” process of selecting a home business opportunity and after the fact justification of decisions made emotionally is very common.

Are You Ready to Be a Cat Owner?

You may have been longing to get a cat but you need to decide if you are prepared to commit yourself. There are lots of factors to take into consideration, and you can start from here:

You know the value of socialization.

Cats have this unfair reputation of being antisocial, and in the case of many felines, this is somehow true. However, when you train your cat to socialize early in life, they are less likely to shy away from relatives or friends who visit. How can you teach your cat to be confident? Let her experience new surroundings, people, things, sounds and scents, as well as treats and praises. You can let them attend classes for kittens that provide helpful training and exercises. Giving a lot of importance to socialization and understanding what you need to do to will bring up a kitty with self confidence may show that you are prepared to get a cat.

You have the means.

It may be hard to figure out how much you need to care for a cat, but certainly, this involves costs of food, bowls, litter, litter box, toys, grooming tools, enrichment products like cat trees and scratchers, identification and microchipping, parasite preventives and veterinary visits. The last one is definitely a big expense. Not all cats visit the veterinarian on a regular basis. A yearly physical exam may be adequate for some cats, while more frequent visits to the vet are needed by older cats and those with health problems. If you are computing the costs to know whether you can afford to get a cat, always include the expenses entailed in health care, as well as pet insurance and emergencies in case you decide to buy it.

You will devote time to exercise your cat.

Cats also need to exercise. It does not mean that you need to walk them the way you do with a dog, though some are trained to do so with a leash. Exercise is very important to cats, even more than most probable cat owners may realize. Besides promoting good physical and mental health, it strengthens the bond between a pet and its owner. Therefore, it is best to devote time daily for active play, and provide cats with toys that encourage them to move a lot – like climbing trees, laser pointers, feather toys, as well as cardboard boxes and paper bags.

You are bent on making your home cat-friendly.

It is easy to recognize cat-friendly houses with their cat trees, scratching posts and food puzzles. These enrichment playthings let cats use their natural instincts – like climbing, jumping, scratching and hunting. In essence, they add more excitement to life, and what more could your favorite feline ask for? When you have discovered how to fit them into your home, there is one other thing you need to do when it comes to cat-friendly living, and that is cat proofing. If you decide to take home a cat, make sure to get rid of and be careful of things that could hurt or poison her – like some chemicals, cleaners, foods, medications and plants, among others.

Kiev history

The legend says that there was a prince family of three brothers named Kiy, Schek and Khoryv and a sister Lybid. Kiy ruled a powerful Slavic tribe and was looking for a place to settle a new home for his people. When they came to the beautiful hills upon Dnepr river and saw wonderful panorama of blue river and seven hills covered with chestnut trees, they liked that place very much and decided to settle there. They established a city and gave it the name Kiev in honour of their oldest brother Kiy more than 1500 years ago. Prince Kiy and his family lived on one hill, Schek settled on another hill which got the mane Schekavitsa, and Khoryv settled on the third hill called Khorevitsa.

Since 882 Kiev became the capital on ancient powerful state called Kievan Rus. In 998 Kiev Prince Vladimir introduced Christianity in Kievan Rus by baptising Kiev population in Dnepr river. In 1240 the city was demolished by mongol-tatars who invaded Kievan Rus, and later it was rebuilt. Since 1362 Kiev and major part of Ukraine belonged to Lithuania and Poland and in 1654 it became part of Russian Empire and then USSR.

In 1991 Ukrainian people voted for independence of Ukraine and Kiev became its capital. Since that time it is the center of Ukraine’s political, economic and cultural life.

In November 2004 Kiev was the central place of Orange Revolution when hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian people protested against election falsification in the streets and later elected another ruling party and the President of Ukraine.

Kiev accommodation
